Gist happens everywhere

At the danfo stop, the viewing centre, the suya stand and on the rooftop. Gistroom is where the conversation goes when you cannot be there.

  1. Morning

    Gist at the danfo stop

Last night's match, this week's fuel price, whatever the conductor is shouting about. Hop in a room before you hop in the bus.

A yellow danfo bus with its conductor waving, and three people chatting on their phones beside it
  2. Afternoon

    Gist at the viewing centre

The whole centre erupts at once. With a room, the people who could not come erupt with you.

Fans packed under a shed cheering at a big screen showing a match
  3. Evening

    Gist at the suya stand

Pepper, onions, opinions. Pull up a stool, and let your friends on the other side of town pull up too.

A suya seller grilling skewers over glowing coals while two customers chat under a lantern
  4. Night

    Gist on the rooftop

Music low, lights on, the city below. The late night talks are the best ones.

Four friends on a rooftop at night with a speaker, string lights and the city behind them

Questions people ask

The short answers, before you even sign up.

Who can use Gistroom?

Anyone who is 18 or older. Gistroom is built for Nigerians talking about Nigeria, but we do not check where you are from and we never claim to.

Do I need a password?

You confirm your email with a code once, when you sign up. After that you sign in with your email and password, or with Google. You only get a code again if you forget your password.

Who can message or call me?

Only your friends. Someone has to send a friend request and you have to accept it before they can chat with you, call you or invite you to a room.

Will I get alerts when the app is closed?

Yes, once you turn alerts on for that device. Calls, messages and friend requests reach you through your browser or your installed app. On iPhone, add Gistroom to your Home Screen first.

How does it work on mobile data?

Audio comes first. Data saver starts calls with audio only and keeps video at a lower quality. You can switch to video in the middle of a call when you want to.

What is a room?

A room is a live group call for up to 32 people. Anyone can start one on the spot or schedule it. Public rooms show up on the rooms page, private rooms are only for people who are invited.

How do I report someone or something?

Use the report option on a profile, a message, a call or a room. You can also write to safety@gistroom.ng. We keep the last messages as evidence so we can act on a report.

How do I delete my account?

Open Settings and choose Delete account. We ask you to confirm with a code sent to your email. Your files are removed and you show as Deleted user in other people's chats.
